Headshot of GCPR student and Seed Grant Awardee Sophia Graybill Department of Geography, PhD Student

My name is Sophia Graybill and I am a doctoral student and teaching/research assistant in the Department of Geography at UNC-Chapel Hill. My research focuses on the intersecting dynamics of rural out-migration, livelihood shifts, and environmental change in Community Forestry User Groups in Nepal. I am interested in understanding how migration decisions are made and what the effects of out-migration are on household and community members who do not migrate. I hope to use participatory approaches and to emphasize critical listening in my work to better understand how people experience and perceive social and environmental change. I am taking ANTH 897/HBEH 690 to learn about different participatory approaches as I begin my application for the Graduate Certificate in Participatory Research.
