I am a PhD student and doctoral fellow of the Community Practice Lab (CPL) within the Department of Health Sciences, pursuing a PhD in Occupational Science. In the Community Engagement Team of CPL, I have partnered with Habitat for Humanity Orange County on their community engagement projects. Through the projects, I was able to foster relationships with my community partners living in a historically Black neighborhood in Hillsborough that has grown to become a multicultural community. My dissertation will have a focus on play for children and youth in the neighborhood. In collaboration with middle school youth in the community, we will explore how play contributes to community cohesion.
