Headshot of GCPR student Jackson Devadas Gillings School of Global Public Health, MPH Student

My name is Jackson Devadas and, as of fall of 2021, I am a first year Master’s in Public Health student in the Health Behavior concentration. I am interested in working with queer BIPOC youth, especially those who are justice-involved, to reimagine systems of care outside of the current policing and carceral paradigms. I am taking ANTH 897 to obtain more knowledge about the tenets and applications of participatory research methods. Public health as a discipline too often conducts research on communities but does not work with communities. I believe that communities must be constantly engaged throughout the entirety of the research process to adequately illustrate health inequities and craft effective community-based solutions. I am currently working as a Graduate Assistant on two projects, the Ohio Opioid Project and the Infectious Disease Youth Council in Durham. Outside of school, I enjoy cooking with my housemates, thrifting any type of item, and spending time with friends and family. I graduated with a BS in Biology and a minor in Statistics from the University of Maryland in May 2021.
