Graduation Year: 2021
GCPR Practicum:“I was able to work alongside a group of incredible student leaders at Tarboro High and community partners and mental health and peer support specialists of color that helped me get through 2020 and 2021. I learned the importance of incorporating a human element into all that I do, flexibility, and listening and pivoting based on the needs expressed by the community with whom I work. This looked like dramatically changing our physical activity CBPR study to be an inward time of reflection, meditation, and self-love during a year of hardship and isolation”.
Favorite GCPR Class(es): Environmental Justice with Dr. Courtney Woods. She is a phenomenal instructor and did not ignore the public health crises that were going on outside of the classroom. I also enjoyed that the course was co-taught and led by community activists.
Advice: “CBPR will follow you and is useful in all workplaces”
