My name is Erica Janko and, as of Fall 2021, I am a third-year PhD student in the Department of Sociology. My research sits at the intersection of work and power. My master’s thesis examines the relationship among work insecurity, political identity, and attitudes toward worker action among North Carolina registered voters. For my dissertation research, I will be studying systems of long-term eldercare in the Durham-Chapel Hill region, with a focus on how paid direct care workers, unpaid family caregivers, and recipients of care experience and navigate these systems. This class has helped me develop the participatory components of this project and begin to strategize how I might best contribute to ongoing activism and to local eldercare communities with this research.
