GCPR Logo. Make a difference. Bridge the gap. Put knowledge into action Gillings School of Global Public Health, MPH Student

My name is Chloe Yang, and, as of fall 2021, I am a first year Master’s in Public Health student at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, in the Health Equity, Social Justice, and Human Rights concentration. My research interests include housing, mental health, and access to care among immigrant, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities, and especially among those at the intersections of these identities. I am currently working as a graduate assistant at UNC’s RISE (Research in Sexual and Gender Minority Equity) Lab. Given the structural forces and histories of oppression behind the health inequities I’m interested in, as well as behind the way public health work has historically been conducted, current research and practice must center community expertise, priorities, and leadership. I am taking HBEH 690/ANTH 897 in order to learn the theory and practice behind CBPR and other methods which work in co-equal partnership with communities. Outside of classes, I enjoy making music, video chatting with friends and family, and adding books to my ever-growing reading list. I graduated with a B.S. in Bioengineering and Creative Writing (double major) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June 2019.
